Introducing Aura Dolor Porras Aragon...

...Okay, that may be a lot to remember, so you can just call me Aura, or Au (pronounced "OW"), Au-Au, or Achau (pronounced "AH-chow"). I don't have any preference, I respond to any of these names. I'm not picky.

Just a little background info on my full name: My first name (Aura) was taken from my maternal grandmother's first name, which is Aurelia, and my second/middle name (Dolor, which means "sorrow" by the way) was taken from my paternal grandmother's first name, which is Dolores. Interesting? I thought so. ;)

I am an only child, but no, I am not a spoiled brat, and I never had any imaginary friends when I was growing up, contrary to the stereotype. I have been singing since I was 2 years old, and started out in a Southern Baptist church. My parents were both professional singers, singing in a radio and television choir that toured most of the Philippines (not all 7,100 islands though, lol) and the United States. They were my biggest musical influences growing up. My dad encouraged me to explore my vocal range when he asked me to sing in our church choir at the young age of 11, as his lead soprano. My vocal heroes growing up were, Sandi Patti, Whitney Houston, and Kathleen Battle.

In 1996, I entered Biola University as a Music Education major with an emphasis in Voice and was involved in the university Chorale, where we sang everything from Bach to Mozart, from Rachmaninoff to Moses Hogan. It was quite an experience, one that I will cherish forever. I was quite set on becoming a Music educator, but due to some circumstances, I decided to venture into other things and said goodbye to music for a while. After 2 years of "wandering aimlessly" I realized that I was like the prophet Jonah in the Bible (read the book of Jonah). God had called him to go to Nineveh to deliver His message, but Jonah decided to disobey God and go somewhere else. As a result of his disobedience, he became miserable. It took for him to be thrown off a boat and be swallowed by a fish (wherein he stayed there for 3 days and 3 nights) to realize that he should've gone to Nineveh, where God had told him to go in the first place. Okay, so where was I going with this? Well, "Music" is my Nineveh, and my 2 years of "wandering aimlessly" were the 3 days and nights that Jonah spent in the belly of the fish. Well, I have finally come out of the belly of that stinkin' fish and decided to obey... I am hoping to go back to school to finish my Music degree. *throws confetti*  Plans are currently on hold right now as I am currently working full-time, but I have decided that I want to go back and finish my Music degree. :)
